In 1984, Pioneer Christian Missionary, Mr. Dakumpi Graham, together with the Maymyo Church of Christ Christian leaders, was able to buy land in the strategic city of Maymyo (Pyin-Oo-Lwin), about 41 miles east of Mandalay City in central Burma. From this land, M.B.I. established a Bible College to continue the great work that Jesus commanded His Disciples, in Acts 1:8, “Ye shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in Judea, and Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the world.”
Christian teachers began giving Bible training to Christian students who came from many different ethnic backgrounds. Teaching at M.B.I. began mainly in the Burmese language because this is the national language for all the “people groups” of Burma.
From the beginning in 1984, Myanmar Bible Institute continued to grow. Christian students came from the Rawang, Lisu, Ngochang, Chin, Jingphaw, Lauvo, Lachid, Kayan, Naga, and Shanand Mro tribes of Burma. On weekends, the Christian students went to nearby villages to put into practice what they had learned in the classes at M.B.I. Also, the Professors of M.B.I. carefully discipled their students. After completing four years of Bible College at M.B.I., the Christian students receive their Bachelor of Theology Degrees.
From M.B.I., many of the Graduates have become Christian missionaries to the Burmese, Chin, Rawang, Lisu, Naga, Khamti Shan, Ngochang, and Kachin (Jinghpaw), and Mro Tribes all over Burma. Through M.B.I., a great program of establishing new “Gospel Beach-Heads” began. Thousands of people turned from Buddhism, Hinduism, and evil-spirit worship (animism) to Christ. The Graduates of Myanmar Bible Institute have planted many new churches all over Burma.
Our vision and purpose of existence are to, with due respect to the values of Myanmar people, equip each new generation of God-Loving leaders to disseminate the Good News of Jesus Christ throughout Asia and the world.
By sponsoring a college student through Footbridge, your partnership will enable M.B.I. to prepare men and women for the transformation of lives for Christ among Myanmar people through discipleship according to New Testament teaching.
May God bless you as you advance His Kingdom through M.B.I.

Buddhism has been a part of Myanmar’s culture since the 1st century CE and has blended with non-Buddhist beliefs.
